Three Things I Can Live Without

Dear Non-US Expats,

The following questions are neither funny nor newsworthy. Please stop asking them.

1. Why do you call yourselves Americans? What about Central or South America?

2. Why is it called the World Series when no one else in the world is allowed to compete?

3. How come Americans only know how to speak English?

Thanks in advance.

1. Because we're refering to our country and not our continent/region. Canadians don't refer to themselves as the North Americans, and Venezuelans don't refer to themselves as the South Americans. You want us to call ourselves the United Statesmen?

2. The best Japanese, Dominican, Puerto Rican, and American players all compete in the World Series for the various MLB teams. If China had good baseball players, they'd sign with a Major League team and compete too.

3. Because English is the official universal language. Besides, American immigrants usually speak their native languages first. If fact, I'm willing to bet more languages are spoken in American cities than anywhere else in the world.

Also, question #3 proves how stupid question #1 is, by having non-Americans refering to Americans as Americans.
